Bruno Delvaux holds a degree in Agricultural Engineering (1978) and a PhD in Agricultural Sciences from the Université Cahtolique de Louvain. He has been or is a member of various scientific committees, commissions and learned societies in Belgium and abroad. He has been a visiting professor in Japan and France and associate editor and guest editor of international journals.
He is the Dean of the Faculty of Biological, Agricultural and Environmental Engineering since 2004.
As a young engineer, he joined the FAO (www.fsao.org), where he worked in Cameroon for six years. Recruited by CIRAD (www.cirad.fr), he directed research in the French West Indies (1984-1990) on the development of environmentally friendly agricultural practices. He submitted his doctoral thesis to UCL in 1988 (CIFA unit).
He joined UCL in 1991, where he teaches soil science. Active in seven European programmes, he leads a research team in the field of soil-plant relationships. His approach combines observation and analysis of the complexity of the field with experimental research in controlled environments to advance hypotheses and knowledge of fundamental processes, with a return to practical consequences.
