Collaborator role
Alejandro Rodriguez-Navarro (Ph.D. 1997 in physics) is Full Professor of Crystallography and Mineralogy at the University of Granada, Granada, Spain. (Scopus: Refereed publications = 145, H-index = 36). He is an expert in the study of biomineralization processes and the development of novel X-ray diffraction methodology. His research interests are focused on understanding how organisms control the mineralization of tissues (eggshell, bone and mollusc shell) and how biominerals develop with highly organized microstructures. He also studies how environmental factors (water chemistry, pollution) affect mineralization in organisms. He has collaborated extensively with the INRAE DOVE group (15 joint publications) and Hincke (12 joint publications). Hincke’s approved sabbatical plan for 2024 includes a stay of at least 2 months (February 1 - March 31) at the University of Granada. Advanced instrumentation and techniques available in this laboratory are XRD, SEM, TEM, EBSD, EELS, FTIR, ICP-mass spectrometry and imaging of stable isotopes. The spectroscopic imaging and characterization of biominerals in CAM extracellular vesicles will be performed in these facilities at the University of Granada.
