Wieslaw I. Gruszecki is a professor of biophysics at the Maria Curie-Sklodowska University in Lublin, Poland. He obtained a Ph.D. degree in physics from the same university (1986) and a D.Sc. (habilitation) in biophysics at the Jagiellonian University in Kraków, Poland (1993). His research focuses on issues related to the regulation of photosynthetic excitation energy transfer, biomembranes, polyene antibiotics, and molecular mechanisms related to the biological activity of xanthophyll pigments in the retina of the human eye. In his research, he uses numerous molecular spectroscopy and molecular imaging techniques. During his academic career, Wieslaw made several long-term foreign visits to various institutions in Canada, the USA, Germany, and Switzerland. Currently, prof. Gruszecki is the vice-rector of the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin, responsible for science and international cooperation.
