PROJECT

Understanding cellular and molecular basis of autism spectrum disorders

I am interested in understanding the presynaptic protein’s contribution/synaptic signaling towards the brain functions in healthy and diseased states. My previous work at Leibniz institute for Neurobiology (LIN) and Institute of Biology at Otto-von-Guericke University, Magdeburg in Germany dealt with one of the important presynaptic protein “Bassoon” and its role in hippocampus and interneuron-dependent functions and dysfunctions towards cognition, learning and memory in mice.

During my postdoctoral research at Dr. Lucie Pellissier’s research group at INRAE, Nouzilly, I will be part of the ERC (European Research Council) funded research project headed by Dr. Pellissier. The main theme of the research work is to “study cellular and molecular basis of autism spectrum disorders”. Autism spectrum disorders are brain pathological conditions, occurs in children and are having social and economic burden. There is no certain known mechanism behind the disease progression and no appropriate treatment strategies either to treat the children with these devastating conditions. During the tenure, I will analyze the brain tissues from different mouse models of autism spectrum disorder having social deficits behavior, using RNA seq/single cell transcriptomics approaches in order to identify novel cellular and molecular substrates. These targets will be further validated in different anatomical regions of brain across the species using immunohistochemical approaches.
